Cynata Files to Begin Phase 1 Trial for CYP-001, World’s First Allogeneic iPSC Product
Australian stem cell company Cynata Therapeutics announced that it has filed an application to the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to commence a Phase I clinical trial for its lead product, CYP-001. CYP-001 is an iPSC-derived mesenchymal stem cell product that is anticipated to be the world’s first allogeneic iPSC product to enter a clinical trial.

ORIG3N and Kangstem Biotech Partner to Investigate Induced Neural Stem Cells for Disease Modeling

RIKEN Resuming World’s First Ever Clinical Study of iPSC-Derived Cells in Humans
In major news released today, RIKEN announced that it is resuming its retinal induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) study in partnership with Kyoto University.
2013 was the first time in which clinical research involving transplant of iPSCs into humans was initiated, led by Masayo Takahashi of the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology (CDB) in Kobe, Japan. Pluriomics Awarded €3.2M to Advance Cardiovascular Drug Discovery – Reducing Time, Cost, & Late Stage Attrition of Drug Candidates
Pluriomics is a Dutch company that specializes in the “production and industrialization of high-quality, fully functional hiPS cells-derived cardiovascular cell types and on the development and realization of electrophysiology-, biochemistry- and contraction-based assays for predictive safety pharmacology, toxicology testing and efficacy screening.”
In news released today, the company announced that it will receive a €3.2M grant under the Horizon 2020 SME instrument programme to advance cardiovascular drug discovery.
The company also announced last month that it will lead a €2.0 million Eurostars consortium for the development of a novel in vitro organ-on-a-chip heart failure model for drug discovery and development.
