2016 on Track for a 20% Increase in Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) Publications

2016 on Track for a 20% Increase in Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) Publications

Recently, we released an article stating that two-thirds of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) scientific publications were released in the past 5 years, even though there is a 40 year history of MSC publications.

What is even more shocking is that more than a quarter (27.4%) of all MSC publications were released during 2014 or 2015, the previous two years.

Moreover, 2016 data shows that we are on track for a nearly 20% increase in MSC publications over 2015.

At BioInformant, we have been tracking the mesenchymal stem cell market for a full decade (2006 to present) and we have never seen MSC scientific publication data look like this.

In market research, we are at what we call an “Inflection Point.” Meaning, we are at a time of significant change in a situation, a turning point.

Whether you manufacture stem cell products, develop stem cell therapies, or offer cord blood banking services, you need to be aware of trends like this.

Explore our blog for more free content on mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) market trends or check out the global strategic report “Mesenchymal Stem Cells – Advances & Applications.”

Two-Thirds of All Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) Publications Were Released in the Past 5 Years

Number of MSC Scientific Publications Increase for 26 Years Straight

Wow, a search of the PubMed database for scientific publications containing the term “mesenchymal stem cell” or “mesenchymal stem cells” now returns nearly 30,000 results – 28,597 to be exact. (PubMed search of terms “mesenchymal stem cell” and “mesenchymal stem cells” executed July 15, 2016.)

Additionally, mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) scientific publications have increased in number EVERY year since 1992. That is 26 years in a row.

If those numbers haven’t shocked you, then this will:

17,804 of those MSC articles were released in the last 5 years (62%). Meaning, two-thirds of all MSC publications were published in the past 5 years, even though MSCs were discovered by Friedenstein and colleagues in 1976. [Read more…]

Imagine Getting Into the Mind of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) Researchers

June 26, 2016 By Cade Hildreth (CEO) Leave a Comment

Imagine Getting Into the Mind of iPSC Researchers

Groundbreaking experimentation in 2006 led to the introduction of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). These are adult cells which are isolated and then transformed into embryonic-like stem cells through the manipulation of gene expression, as well as other methods. Research and experimentation using mouse cells at Kyoto University in Japan was the first instance in which there was successful generation of induced pluripotent stem cells. Then in 2007, a series of follow-up experiments done at Kyoto University successfully transformed human adult cells into iPSCs.

Interestingly, the number of iPSC research products sold worldwide has been growing at an annual rate of 14.7% over the past five years.

In addition, 22.1% of all stem cell researchers now report having used iPSCs within a research project. It is clear that iPSCs are a vital research trend within the scientific community.

To capture these trends and more, BioInformant surveyed 274 researchers (131 U.S. / 143 International) that identify as having induced pluripotent stem cells as their core focus.

The survey reveals needs, technical preferences, and key factors influencing buying decisions among iPSC researchers. It can be used to make effective product development decisions, create targeted marketing messages, and produce higher prospect-to-client conversion rates.

Can you imagine getting into the mind of iPSC researchers? If so, I’m surprised and impressed.

If not, click here to view the “Complete 2015-16 Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Industry Report,” which contains BioInformant survey of iPSC researchers – and so much more.

Do You Know What Regions are Doing the Most Searches for Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs)?

Google Trends is a supplemental service of Google Incorporated that analyzes trend data collected through Google Search.

It shows how often a particular search term is entered relative to total search-volume across various regions of the world and in various languages.

It is an absolutely incredible market research tool for assessing stem cell market dynamics, because it reflects real-time social behavior related to specific stem cell types and provides public access to Google’s online search information. [Read more…]
