3 Bullet Thursday – Stem Cells for Bioprinting, Fertility, & Replacement Organs (Oct 22, 2015)

3 Bullet Thursday - Stem Cells (Oct 22, 2015)

Stay alert to the latest and greatest on stem cells.  Enjoy this week’s “3 Bullet Thursday,” a weekly post that we do to update you on interesting and important events within the world of stem cells.

1. RoosterBio has released the world’s first ever ready-to-print (RTP) stem cell product, “thaw and use” human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). This advance will make standardized cells accessible for rapid 3D bioprinting and tissue engineering. Totally incredible.

2. Scientists from Egypt’s Mansoura Medical School have successfully reversed infertility from cancer by directly injecting stem cells into the ovaries.

3. Will we eventually grow replacements organs using our own stem cells? It’s possible, as two research teams released news of growing kidney structures from stem cells within the past month.

First, an American team lead by Dr. Ryuji Morizane published findings in Nature Biotechnology that they had converted induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into kidney structures that resemble those from a normal human kidney.

Second, a team of Australian researchers lead by Dr. Minoru Takasato successfully grew nephron organoids from iPSCs, releasing their results in Nature.

It’s been quite a week. Happy Thursday!

Axiogenesis AGJuly 14, 2015, COLOGNE, Germany—Axiogenesis AG, a leading supplier of tissue-specific human cell types derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and provider of pre-clinical drug development assays and disease models, announced today that it has signed an sublicense agreement with GE Healthcare (GEHC). Under the agreement, GEHC will sublicense intellectual property to use human iPSCs, enabling Axiogenesis to develop cellular assays and models derived from stem cells for use in drug discovery and toxicity screening for its customers. This agreement strengthens Axiogenesis’ ability to offer the market freedom-to-operate with Axiogenesis’ proprietary iPSC-derived cells and tissues.

[Timeline] Key Events in the Production of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells

June 18, 2015 By Cade Hildreth (CEO) Leave a Comment

Timeline of Key iPSC Events

When assessing the market potential for induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), it is important to consider where the research began, when it accelerated, and where it is at the current point in time.

Timeline of Key iPSC Production Events

The following is a timeline of the key events in the production of iPSCs, beginning with their discovery in 2006. For research product companies interested in dominating the iPSC products marketplace, it is critical to understand the different production methods for iPSCs, the chronological order of the introduction of methodologies, and the inventors who first performed each.

The reason for this is several-fold: [Read more…]
