Luxcel Biosciences, Axiogenesis, and BMG LABTECH have announced €2.5M in funding to develop and launch a cell metabolism analysis platform, MetaCell™.
Together, these companies European technology subject matter experts (SMEs) have been awarded €2.5m funding from the European commission under the H2020 Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) pilot. Could Google Be the Next Big Force in Regenerative Medicine?
Google has been massively (and quietly) increasing its presence in the regenerative medicine sector for several years.
In February 2016, Google’s life sciences business, Verily Life Sciences, announced it was negotiating terms to lease a giant 400,000-square-foot facility formerly occupied by Onyx Pharmaceuticals, a company acquired by Amgen for $9.7 billon in 2013.
The facility in Mountain View, California, is about 30 miles north of Alphabet Inc., the holding company for Google (NASDAQ: GOOG). It could support as many as 1,000 Verily Life Sciences employees. Land is also included in lease, a rarity in the Bay Area, allowing Verily the potential for future expansion. [Read more…]
$15M Upstate Cord Blood Bank Opens in Syracuse, NY
On February 9, 2017, Upstate Cord Blood Bank in Syracuse, NY, opened its doors. The planning and construction was a lengthy process and cost $15 million.
The project origins go back to 2006 when the center was first proposed. Unfortunately, state funding for the project was delayed in 2008 due to economic conditions, and the build out of the cord blood bank was further delayed when design changes were implemented during construction. Senator John DeFrancisco had a pivotal role in securing state funding for the cord blood bank. [Read more…]
