CryoHoldco has announced the acquisition of Criocord, a cord blood bank and cell therapy institute in Perù, for an undisclosed sum. CryoHoldco already owns the cord blood market leaders in Mexico and Colombia and now controls an important asset in Peru. A portfolio company of ACON investments, CryoHoldco is a stem cell bank holding company that is the market leader in Latin America and one of the largest cord blood banks worldwide.
Created in 2015, Cryoholdco will control nearly 200,000 stem cell units by the end of 2018. This makes it more than five times larger than any other stem cell bank in Latin America.
According to management at Cryoholdco, the cord blood banking market needs to be consolidated. This will allow larger companies to increase their investment in technology, create state –of- the-art storage facilities, and participate in clinical trials, as well as improve operating performance and invest in educational programs to communicate the benefits of storing cord blood and tissue to physicians and parents.
Since its launch in 2015, Cryoholdco has established itself as the market leader within Latin America. It now owns six cord blood banks within Mexico, Columbia, and Peru, as well as a dental stem cell storage company (DentCell) in Mexico.
Today, Cryoholdco controls the following cord blood assets:
- Cryo-Cell Mexico
- DentCell (Dental stem cell storage company)
- Subsidiary 1
