Boston Biolife - Courses and Workshops

Boston BioLife (www.bostonbiolife.com) is a cutting-edge organization that provides workshops for physicians and scientists interested in learning regenerative medicine. Its mission is to facilitate the introduction of emerging life sciences technologies to scientists and healthcare providers.

Importantly, Boston Biolife leverages its network and a commitment to continuous research into emerging technologies to introduce workshop attendees to new technologies of which they would otherwise be unaware.

Its training programs are characterized by using both didactic and interactive, “hands-on” approaches, which physicians can get ACCME accreditation for attending.

Leadership and Vision Behind Boston Biolife

Joseph Krieger, President of Boston Biolife

Founded in 2015, the company is led by Founder and President, Joseph Krieger. According to Krieger, “Our involvement in the clinical applications of stem cells is focused on origin, biological activity, and the current roles stem cells are taking part in medical applications as well as their potential for future applications.”

However, stem cells are not the only focus of Boston Biolife. According to Krieger, “In addition to stem cells, we are looking at the role of other regenerative medicine components such as cytokines, growth factors, enzymes, and proteins, and their potential impact on biological activity. This includes platelet rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow aspiration concentrate (BMAC), adipose, amniotic fluid, placental membrane derivatives, as well patient derived proteins and enzymes such as fibrin and alpha-2 macroglobulin (A2M).”

By focusing on these emerging researching areas, Boston Biolife is able to give physicians the opportunities to understand new opportunities that may be used used to help patients and advance medicine.

As an expert in emerging regenerative therapies, Krieger can also be heard every Friday on “I Heart Radio” discussing translational medicine topics or you can read our recent interview with him here.

Translating Science into Medicine

The fundamental premise of Boston Biolife is to provide a bridge between emerging technologies in a laboratory setting and the physicians and clinics who ultimately provide access to patients most in need.

By creating awareness for cutting edge technologies through its regenerative medicine workshops, Boston Biolife’s main focus is to facilitate the integration of these technologies into everyday medical practice.

Key goals of Boston Biolife events are to:

The educational model used by Boston BioLife is to train and educate physicians in an interactive setting. Therefore, it is a workshop goal to provide attendees with didactic and hands-on training over a two-day program.

Furthermore, the courses are taught by leading physicians and scientists that are forefront in Regenerative and Translational Medicine, and the faculty that teach them have been trained by and work with elite establishments and and world-renowned research institutions.

As stated by Krieger, “I feel that it is important that our attendees have an opportunity for one-to-one collegial interaction with our faculty as well as learning industry involvement and to meet the associated organizations. My ultimate goal is to offer an opportunity for advancing the physician’s patient outcomes and future practice.”

World-Renowned Speakers Include Globally-Recognized Physicians and Scientists

Dr. Arnold Caplan

At its recent August 2016 event in Chicago, Illinois, Boston Biolife featured Dr. Arnold Caplan, who is widely regarded as the “Grandfather of MSCs.” MSCs are a highly promising type of stem cell, known as mesenchymal stem cells, mesenchymal stromal cells, or sometimes, medicinal signaling cells.

Regardless of which of these names is used, MSCs have a unique capacity for use in therapeutic applications, because they are immuno-privileged, can be readily sourced from a wide variety of tissues, activate the body’s own regenerative mechanisms, and avoid the ethical issues that surround embryonic stem cell research. Because of these advantageous traits, MSCs have been cited in more than 36,000 scientific publications to date and are being explored in nearly 500 MSC clinical trials worldwide.

As a Professor of Biology and Director of the Skeletal Research Center at Case Northwestern University, Dr. Caplan has lectured and published extensively within the fields of cellular and molecular, developmental and bone biology and is recognized as one of the foremost authorities on tissue regeneration. He is the recipient of several honors and awards from the orthopedic research community.

He was also an important speaker at the recent FDA Public Hearing on the Regulation of Human Cell and Tissue-Based Products (HCT/Ps), held on September 12-13, 2016. You can learn about the impact of that event and Dr. Caplan’s contributions to the conversation in the article, “FDA Regulation of Stem Cells Explored in Historic Public Hearing (Event Synopsis).”

Kevin Pauza, M.D.

Key speakers for upcoming Boston Biolife events include Kevin Pauza, M.D., who will be presenting for Boston Biolife’s next course in his home state of Texas on November 12-13, 2016, to discuss his recent studies in intradiscal biologics for degenerative disc disease.

For the upcoming San Diego workshop held on January 21-22, 2017, key speakers will include Wenchun Qu, M.D., Ph.D. (Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic), David K. Angeloni (President and C.S.O., Millennium Medical Technologies, Inc.), Scott Brandt, M.D. (Medical Director, ThriveMD), and more.

As evidenced by these highly-regarded speakers, Boston Biolife consistently attracts industry thought-leaders, renowned physicians, and globally recognized scientists to its events.
