Advantages of Attending Cord Blood World Europe 2015
The cord blood banking industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, with the number of cord blood banks increasing 21 fold in less than 10 years, but recent challenges have meant that there are still issues that need to be addressed. High costs of units due to expensive storage and extraction, a lack of available units, and a plateau in the use of cord blood for transplant and regenerative medicine mean that a meeting between key players in this area is greatly needed.
“After 10 years of success at the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Congress and born out of demand from previous attendees, speakers and feedback over the years Cord Blood World Europe, aims to bring together public and private banks, clinicians, researchers, and solution providers to tackle the challenges and opportunities facing this field of regenerative medicine” says Jessica Robinson, Conference Manager of the Cord Blood World Europe Congress. She goes on explaining that new regenerative applications for cord blood are finally being realised and brought into the clinic which shows signs that the sector is about to undergo an important transition.
“Prominent oncology clinicians are now looking at using cord blood as a cellular therapy as well as during transplantation” she adds. Most notably Dr Joanne Kurtzberg’s team at Duke currently working on treating Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy have seen some promising early results and human trials are well underway. Dr Paul Veys, Director of BMT and Specialty Lead, Great Ormond Street Hospital has been working on targeting viral infections as well as leukaemia cells with cord blood derived immune cells and Dr Jaap Boelens, Pediatric Oncologist at the University of Utrecht has also been working on developing multiple treatments using cord blood one of which involves using an immunotherapy (dendritic cell vaccine) to improve the outcomes of cord blood transplant. Dr Veys and Dr Boelens will both be discussing their findings next month at Cord Blood World Europe in London.
The Cord Blood World Europe Congress welcomes an audience of 150 professionals from the cord blood community across research, development, clinical and commercial areas. Networking and exhibition area will be shared with the World Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Congress the event will bring together 600 members of the regenerative medicine community. Delegates will be able to hear and learn from over 30 speakers across the 2 days. This year’s meeting will deliver exceptional knowledge, showcase new techniques and technologies, create valuable business opportunities and provide a platform to advance the cord blood sector.
