Engineered by RoosterBio Inc.: Universal bioprocess bags to streamline closed system stem cell production

Innovative bagged media systems drastically reduce manufacturing development timelines and simplify translation into large-scale cell culture platforms.

Frederick, MD, USA, Dec 5, 2016 —RoosterBio Inc announces the commercial launch of flexible packaging for their exceptionally efficient human mesenchymal stem/stromal cell (hMSC) expansion medium. This single use (“SU”) disposable bag system extends RoosterBio’s portfolio of bioprocess media products engineered to radically streamline culture processes, minimize processing time, significantly decrease production costs, and simplify the transition into scalable platforms for clinical and commercial adult stem cell manufacturing.

RoosterBio’s hMSC High Performance Media is now available in SU disposable bags engineered to be compatible with all major cell therapy/ bioprocessing culture systems, including multi-layer vessels and suspension bioreactors. This flexible media packaging is made with best-in-class film technology and engineered with multiple weld-able or aseptic connection ports to enable rapid integration with scalable bioreactor technologies. With the introduction of this bagged media format, RoosterBio media systems are now instantly compatible with all major 2D and 3D cell culture systems. This system streamlines workflow by eliminating the need to transfer media from bottles to bags for closed system hMSC expansion, and reduces the custom engineering time required for transitioning to scalable cell culture systems.

Jon Rowley, CEO of RoosterBio stated: “The Stem Cell Therapy field is sorely lacking standards in single use disposables and bioreactor technology, slowing product development timelines throughout the industry. We are commercializing our best in class hMSC bioprocess media systems now in universal single-use bag configurations to further our mission of radically shortening the development timelines for stem cell-based medical products. Our creative engineers designed media bags (patent pending) to connect to all Cell Therapy Bioreactors – much like a computer peripheral with the ability to connect to different machines via multiple port configurations. This innovative design can save a product development team 12-15 months on custom engineering single use reagent systems for their specific expansion technologies. We are excited to further accelerate our customers’ progress towards developing lifesaving medical products that incorporate stem cell technologies.”
