The AAOSCP announces the formation of an Ethical Committee to ensure that medical experimentation and human research are carried out in an ethical manner.
The American Academy of Stem Cell Physicians (AAOSCP) is an organization created to advance the research and development of therapeutics in regenerative medicine, including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease related to or occurring within the human body. Its aim is to be an educational resource for physicians, scientists, and the public in diseases that can be caused by physiological dysfunction that are ameliorable to medical treatment.
Initiated May 2019, the AAOSCP has formed an Ethical Committee with the purpose of overseeing and ensuring that medical experimentation and human research are carried out in an ethical manner in accordance with national and international law.
With medical research advances related to stem cells and regenerative medicine (RM) rapidly progressing, the AAOSCP is in a unique position to assess and respond to unethical advertising and inappropriate service offerings by medical practitioners. The Ethical Committee of the AASCP believes that medical and research bodies must adapt to these growing changes and maintain ethical composure. For those seeking to come into compliance, the Ethical Committee of the AAOSCP will gladly assist and guide with measures to improve ethical compliance.
Particularly within the realm of biologics and advanced therapies, it is essential that medical practitioners stay in compliance with the FTC, FDA, and the Board of Medicine. This ensures that safe, clinically-proven therapies can be made to available to patients, while preventing access to dangerous, unproven and unvetted therapies.
To ensure compliance, the AAOSCP’s Ethical Committee will be monitoring activity within the industry and mailing Guidance Letters as necessary. These Guidance Letters will specify the identity of the recipient, the nature of an ethical violation, an intention to see the violation remedied, and a commitment to monitoring the situation. If the recipient does not come into compliance, the letter will be posted on the internet as a permanent public record of the violation.
